M&E specialists announce new contract for innovative cancer care centre

Speke-based mechanical & electrical engineering specialists Steven A. Hunt & Associates have secured a six figure contract to work on an advanced medical diagnostics centre set to be built in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter next year.

The new Rutherford Diagnostics HQ was officially announced at the MIPIM UK property market conference in London last week. With Rutherford Diagnostics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Proton Partners International, confirming that the new facility is to be situated in Liverpool City Council’s £1bn Paddington Village development as part of the developing Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool).

The construction of the Rutherford Diagnostics Centre will see Steven Hunt & Associates join forces with some of the industry’s most respected contractors, including the Morgan Sindall Group.

The firm will act as engineering consultant on the project, to design the building services throughout the new facility, which will include mechanical ventilation to all floors, air conditioning, heating served from the sitewide energy centre, lighting, power, fire alarms and full access control.

Steve Hunt, managing director of Steven Hunt & Associates, said:

“We’re honoured to have been appointed to such an important development, not only for the city but for the medical industry as a whole. This modern facility will be truly world class and I can’t think of a better home for it than Liverpool.”

The new five-storey development will become part of the innovative medical hub within the Knowledge  Quarter, the new home to the Royal College of Physicians’ northern headquarters, the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and the Rutherford Cancer Centre North West.

Set to transform treatment for cancer patients throughout the UK, the new diagnostics centre will be one of the few facilities to offer a range of cutting edge diagnostic services which will include MRI, CT, PET and Ultrasound.

Ron Russell, head of operations for Rutherford Diagnostics said:

“We are building a centre that will, for many years, provide local people with access to cutting edge medical diagnostic technology which will have a real impact on health outcomes for the whole region.  The people we serve deserve nothing less than excellence and we are committed to delivering that in all aspects of our work.

“It is important that those with whom we work share that ethos and, in Steven Hunt & Associates we are pleased to have a partner who we believe can deliver on these goals.  We are excited to be working with Steven Hunt & Associates on our ambitious programme of work and are confident that this collaboration will produce something we will all be proud of and that will serve the local population well into the future.”

The work on the new diagnostics centre is already underway with the completion expected Autumn next year.
